Pav & Ave Junior Open was a great success

The Pav & Ave Open Junior Tournament 2010 took place over the February half term and was an overall big success in spite of the weather and all was brought to a satisfactory conclusion by late Friday afternoon. There were 13 events ranging from 8&Under to 18&Under boys and girls singles and 307 matches were completed in the 5 days!

Pav & Ave players won 3 of the titles, Emily Kennard won her first ever title by winning the 8&Under Girls event, Sonay Kartal won the 9&Under Girls and Julian Cash was the 14&Under Boys champion whilst Tia Curtis came runner-up in the 10&Under Girls competition. Competitors came from Surrey, Middlesex, Kent, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire as well as from all over Sussex.

It was a very busy week creating a great atmosphere at the Club and thanks go to our sponsors Pure Alpine Holidays, Head UK plus the Coaching Team and the Clubhouse Bar stewards for helping to make the tournament run so smoothly.

Juniors play in France

In October half term 2009 12 Pav & Ave juniors travelled with two coaches, Ben Reeves and Jack Palmer, five parents and a Pure Alpine Holidays representative to France to play against Briançon Tennis Club (the best club in the Hautes Alpes region).

The whole trip was action packed and over 4 days 40 singles and doubles matches were played, resulting in each player having at least 1 or 2 matches per day. At the end of the tournament both clubs drew by winning 20 matches each! This trip was rewarding and successful for all the players in many ways, to travel abroad, play a high standard of tennis and to overcome the language barrier. They coped very well with scoring their matches in French which has made them all more confident and as a club bonded them closer together.

The children were also lucky enough to be invited to watch a National ice hockey match and to skate on the ice rink! Due to the huge success of this trip, we are hoping to invite Briançon Tennis Club to come and play at Pav & Ave and we’ll try to reciprocate some of the fabulous hospitality shown to us
