MARCH MINI TENNIS TOURNAMENTS

MINI RED TOURNAMENT - MARCH 1st
The final winter tournament was most successful for the Club's juniors with Sonay Kartal again winning the girl's event and Ted Bloomfield the boys event, with Charlie Warren runner up. All our mini red players have benefitted from the winter match play and have enjoyed their first taste of competition.

MINI ORANGE TOURNAMENT - MARCH 8th
Amazingly for the third time running the weather was awful, so again it was staged in the airhall! The players were once more subjected to short matches but they handled the situation well. The girls event was won by Tia Penny with Sonay Kartal runner up and Ted Bloomfield and Charlie Warren were runner up and third place respectively in the boys event. In the 'older' orange event, James Heal was our winner with Poppy Binns runner up.

MINI GREEN TOURNAMENT - MARCH 15th
Luckily the weather allowed the players to compete outside using the short set format which can count towards ratings points. Our Club girls did well with Rhiannon Gray the winner and Lauren Gardner the runner up. The boys event was very strong this time and Archie Bell did well to come 5th out of 13 entries. The 'older' event was won by Aran Kartal.

PAV & AVE's JUNIOR OPEN A BIG SUCCESS!

Pav & Ave's Open Junior Tournament took place during February Half Term week. It was the Club's first venture at hosting such an event and we had some 150 entries spread over the age groups from 8&Under to 16&Under, with players travelling from all over Sussex, Kent, Surrey and Hampshire. Our own juniors also entered and did extremely well:

Sonay Kartal - Winner 8&Under Girls
Sonay Kartal - Runner Up 9&Under Girls
Ted Bloomfield - Winner 8&Under Boys
Ted Bloomfield - 4th 9&Under Boys
Charlie Warren - 4th 8&Under Boys
Josh Goldin - Runner Up 9&Under Boys
Lauren Gardner - 4th 10&Under Girls
Kian Hall - Runner Up 10&Under Boys
Oliver Bakhtiari - Winner 14&Under Boys
Oliver Bakhtiari - Runner Up 16&Under Boys

There were 224 matches played, which included 3299 games in 2577 minutes!
Thanks go to Christine Greenwood, our professional tournament referee, Timeout Options for providing some sponsorship, the Coaching Team and all who helped behind the bar to make the event so successful.
The Club has asked the LTA if we can stage the tournament at the same time next year and also put in a request for a repeat of the weather conditions, but maybe a few degrees warmer towards the end of the week next time!!

JANUARY MINI TENNIS TOURNAMENTS

MINI RED TOURNAMENT - 19TH JANUARY
A successful tournament was again held in the airhall with 12 entries, 7 of whom were Pav & Ave and it was good to see some new faces from other clubs competing this time. Two Club members did well, Charlie Warren won the silver medal and Sonay Kartal, the bronze medal.

MINI ORANGE TOURNAMENT - 19TH JANUARY
Yet again the weather was poor so the tournament had to be staged in the airhall with matches played as points rather than games. There were some new faces competing along with 6 out of the total entry of 12 from Pav & Ave. The semi finals were both of a very high standard with 3 of the 4 players from the Club and the final was an all Pav & Ave affair of awesome tennis played in true sporting spirit with Josh Goldin narrowly taking the gold medal from Guy Bryman. The older boys final was won by Stephen Laurent with Dominic Hewitt runner up.

MINI GREEN TOURNAMENT - 26TH JANUARY
Fortunately weather conditions allowed this event to be staged outdoors and the competitors played proper matches. The girls' draw was won by Pav & Ave's Rhiannon Gray and in the boys' event, Josh Pollard took the silver medal, with Guy Bryman winning the bronze medal. The older boys' event was won by Aran Kartal with runner up Rory Cahill.

NOVEMBER MINI TENNIS TOURNAMENTS

Many clubs in the County stage these events and most hold 3 tournaments in each category during the winter - Red, Orange and Green. The results give the children points in order of merit from 1st to 8th and these are entered on to a Master Board.

SAT 17th NOVEMBER - MINI RED
The Club held its first ever event for Under 8's - 7 of the 8 entries were our 'Munchkin' members, playing in their first tournament which they thoroughly enjoyed in the airhall. The entertaining final was won by Cameron Waller from Maresfield TC with the Club's Sonay Kartal runner up and 3rd was Bradley Holmes, also from Pav & Ave.

SAT 17th NOVEMBER - MINI ORANGE
It was now the turn of the U9's who had to cope with the pressure of shortened matches, played in the airhall due to the rain. The Club again was well represented by 11 out of the 13 entries. This time Pav & Ave had the champion and the runner up, Andre Bennett and Guy Bryman respectively. The 'older' competition was won by Nicholas Curtis with Stephen Laurent runner up, both Pav & Ave.

SAT 24th NOVEMBER - MINI GREEN
This competition is for U10's and this time it was freezing cold and very windy! Well done to the parents who withstood the elements to offer words of encouragement and commiseration! All 9 entries were from Pav & Ave with Andre Bennett taking a second title and Archie Bell, runner up. The 'older' competition was won by Rory Cahill, with Aran Kartal runner up.

CROATIA 1-6 JULY 2007

Once Upon A Time Tennis - This summer Keith Pullin and Martin Reeves took a group of 11 Pav & Ave children and their parents to the prestigious OUATT 2007 International Junior Summer Finals. This year the event was held in Umag Croatia, the home of the Croatian Open ATP profesional tour event and was played at the same tennis centre used by the ATP. Despite the oppressive heat, having to play on clay, a surface on which the children have virtually no experience and the intense competition from the best players in the world travelling as far as Japan, California, Australia and Maurities, every child exceeded their expectations and had a memorable experience.

The juniors taking part were: Julian and Jamie Cash, Mariella Blackwell, Ollie Kite, Joe Mills, Kian Hall, Miles Healy, James Curtis, Bryce Housome and Daniel Little.
